Five Local High School Graduates Named as Class of 2024 Ingalls Music Scholarship Award Winners

The Machias Bay Chamber Concerts Executive Board is proud to announce the names of the Class of 2024 Hollis & Billie Ingalls Music Scholarship Award recipients:

JONESPORT-BEALS HIGH SCHOOL - Mackenzie Urban has been nominated as the Jonesport-Beals High School Ingalls Award winner for sharing her beautiful singing voice in community and high school events. Last spring she sang “In Flanders Field” at the Beals’ Historical Society’s Memorial Day Service and she performed the National Anthem for Jonesport-Beals High School’s Veterans Day program last fall. Mackenzie will be attending the University of Southern Maine this upcoming Fall, majoring in Psychology and Public Health. 

MACHIAS MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL - Joel Vane has been nominated by long-time Machias music educator Nadine Baker. Joel has been an active member of the Machias music program since Pre-K, and has played the baritone horn and has sung with the Chorus since Grade 4. In recent years Joel has added the bass guitar to his accomplishments. Joel has attended District 6, Washington County and All-State Music Festivals, has played with the Machias Pep Band from Machias to Augusta, and has marched in the Memorial Day Parade countless times. Joel will be attending UMM in the Fall where he will be studying Marine Biology. Music will always be a big part of Joel’s life and his musicianship will be missed greatly next year.

NARRAGUAGUS JR/SR HIGH SCHOOL - Holly Tabbutt was nominated for her musical talent and gift of singing the National Anthem at Narraguagus home basketball games throughout her high school years. Holly is also an accomplished visual artist, and will be attending UMaine in the Fall, majoring in Art Education.

SHEAD HIGH SCHOOL - Dana Mahar was nominated by Robert Sanchez, Eastport Elementary and Shead High School’s music teacher. Dana has been an active musician for years and has been playing tenor saxophone starting in 4th Grade, and has participated in County-wide Music Festivals and High School Pep Band since 7th grade. Dana participated in community-wide activities, such as performing on New Years Eve for the community sardine drop. Dana will be attending Empire Beauty School in Bangor.


WASHINGTON ACADEMY - Eliza Albee has been nominated by music teacher Bonnie Atkinson for her 4 year involvement and loving commitment to the Washington Academy music program. Eliza is a talented and dedicated musician that has participated in every aspect of music programming since Elementary School. During her high school years she has played trumpet in Concert Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band, and Marching Band, as well as in Instrumental Studio Class. In addition, Eliza has shared her powerful singing voice in the WA Chorus, Washingtones Acapella Choir, Pops Night Solo performances, and in the WA Vocal Studio Class. Wanting to take advantage of as many opportunities as she could Eliza also flourished in WA’s Beginning Guitar and Lab Band classes, gaining proficiency on guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, french horn, trombone and piano. Eliza has performed in numerous concerts, school visits, and Coffee Houses throughout her high school career, and was a strong and contributing member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Eliza has an exceptional gift and ease of working with kids, and she will be beginning classes in Early Childhood Education at Washington County Community College in the Fall.
